| Arlington's StaffStan Howell, DeanStan graduated from Western Maryland College in 1959, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics. His first employment out of college was at Westinghouse Electric Corp. This was followed by three years of military service as an officer in the Air Force. Immediately after military service, he worked at NASA’s Manned Spaceflight Center near Houston, TX. Between 1965 and 1970, he attended the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland School of Medicine, in the Ph.D. program in the field of Biological Chemistry. He attained candidacy for the degree, but family circumstances prevented him from completing his dissertation, and it was necessary for him to drop out of school without receiving the degree. He returned to the workforce first at the Shock-Trauma Unit at the University of Maryland Hospital, and then at the National Security Agency. He retired from NSA in 2002 after 23+ years at the Agency, and with more than 27 total years of Federal service. For the next six years he worked with a government contractor, ViaSat, Inc, retiring in March 2009. Stan was raised in the home of a Methodist pastor. He knew about Christ from early childhood, and knew that Christ had died on the cross for our sins. He witnessed Christian living in the home and was taught good behavior. But there was no personal relationship with Christ. In March 1970, his brother visited from Alabama and shared many Bible truths with him. As Stan was reading in the book of Matthew, he came to Matt. 7:21, and knew in his heart that he had been living life only as one who was saying, “Lord, Lord,” but not doing the will of the Father who is in heaven. He decided that he had to decide how he would live life from that point on: to fully accept the Scriptures in genuine belief and live by them, or throw the Bible away. By God’s grace, he confessed his sins, turned to Christ in repentance, and asked Him to be his Savior and Lord. In 2004, he completed a three-year Revival Internship Program with Canadian Revival Fellowship. In 2005, he received a Th.M. degree, and in 2007, a Th. D. degree, both from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He was appointed Dean of Arlington Bible College and Institute on May 17, 2009. |
